We know the way to get rid of even the most powerful pain.

cause that would make me happy

i had a really tumultuous teenager-hood i was a happy and smart little kid it was surprising when so much angst welled up inside me

me um we didnt have computers in our homes then

plan to be surprised

i thought id live there forever one day when i was 12 my dad quit his job and we moved to lake tahoe it rocked my stable world

but let me tell you thats not how it will really go i imagine most kids will want to stay home and play computer games but their moms will make them come and so theyll grudgingly put on a some church pants and skirts so i was wondering if you could help me know how to bring the romance back into our modern life its not really that important no matter the dress or the menu we just want the kids to come to feel the spirit of the temple but its like you said anne when you dont use your imagination to make life beautiful how much you miss

a conversation today

i look for girls with purses that compliment mine

more earrings get yours here

a few months in the life of this infertile girl

what do you look for in a best friend

the deal with pcos and carbs

confession i miss saved by the bell

i spent a few years calming down my teen angst and attempting to grow up i loved san luis obispo i was ready to chill there for good

do you have to be obsessed with yarn and needles and hooks like i am to think that is the most inviting little space youve ever seen

i couldnt find a video of him performing it but listen to the lyrics

she follows me around all day just in case she might be needed for something anything cute little penny is just a wee dog but she feels strongly that part of her duty is to scare the crap out of anyone who gets near our house just so they know no one is going to mess with her family not on her watch she is undeterred by bigger animals and scary men- they all get yelled at to stay away

dear anne shirley its been a long time since i last wrote but i need your advice i am planning a primary activity for this spring since our theme for the year is my eternal family and we like to have our activities point the children to what they are learning i thought it might be nice if we have a picnic on or near the grounds of the mt timpanogos temple and let them bask in the beauty of that place and reflect on the importance of their own eternal family

well as it turns out it was me who needed her the most i think if the test of the greatest among us is the one who will be the servant than penny wins in this houseok animal peoplei get it i really really get it

one of my resolutions for 2009 was to stop ignoring the etsy shop and to not spin my wheels all day (these two problems are very related) i am the queen of walking in circles around the house and not really getting anything accomplished i wouldnt care except for that it drives me nuts part of the problem is my insomniatic nights which leave me only half there during the day times ( which then leads to high caffeine consumption) so i decided step one is to get good nights sleeps i am trying to change my night time routine to a peaceful herbal tea quiet inspiration seeking few hours it helps if i keep our room clean and the sheets freshly washed and calming reading more- tv less- at night is a goal then hopefully my days will be a little more with it because i hate wasting time

Waiting for Superman

Waiting for Superman

So we finally watched "Waiting for Superman," the documentary about our [failed] education system. While the film was moving and insightful, it reiterated one aspect of school systems that I despise: magnet schools.

My beef isn't with the concept of narrow focus/talent schools or that they may yield better educations. Your kid's a whiz at math? The next Sergei Rachmaninoff or Bobby Fischer you say? That's one thing; there are longstanding programs for "gifted & talented." My issue is that magnet schools destroy neighborhoods from the inside out by withdrawing a significant part of a child's upbringing from the very neighborhood they grow up in.

Think about it: send a kid across town to a school in another neighborhood, presumably as good as or [predictably] more affluent. That child develops as a sort of transplant - maybe he/she flourishes over there; but is that necessarily beneficial for either neighborhood? I say no. I say it ingrains flight and ambivalence tendencies because that child is spread too thin, too early. It's not easy for a young person to be sent far from "the nest." Too much pressure, shoved out of the nest too soon. Nests exist for a reason, they protect until they aren't necessary any longer.

And what about lotteries? How many troubled schools systems resort to a game of pure chance to save a few kids? Lottery if you win, Russian Roulette if you miss out? Poor & failing schools get the shaft when magnet schools exist as "a way out." Huh? You mean I don't have to be active in my neighborhood school?! Spin that wheel you grim reaper of education, my money's on lucky #73! Seriously, I was born in '73 and it works all the time. No, not really but it did work a couple of years ago during the Final Four...

Magnet schools would be great if they were the pinnacle of a solid pyramid. The problem is they are often the top of a rickety system and are viewed as a safe haven for education. As if you crossed some broke-ass rope bridge over a cavern, but managed to make it to the other side. Magnet schools defer problems to those regular schools that are left; and the people left with it - the ones that didn't act or didn't get lucky. Either way, those 'leftovers' are at a clear disadvantage because a.) the ones that didn't act may be passive or just complacent and b.) the unlucky ones just want out, there's another sweepstakes next year! Maybe we just make do, or daddy takes a second job to pay for private school. Guaranteed success then, right?

What happened to sticking to it, digging in, growing roots? I'm talking to the parents.
